This is a three-year bachelor degree programme following international conventions and standards, which will equip you with broad knowledge about information
and communication technology. The programme focuses on software development in the areas of technical, administrative and commercial computer systems, particularly with regards to the Faroese context and potential local applications.
There is great interest in developing IT industries, which have the potential to bolster Faroese business and society. A software engineering degree is highly relevant in the context of developing IT systems. IT, telecommunications and energy service providers all require employees with this type of degree to secure their core activities. There is a pressing need for software engineers in the Faroes.
Software engineering is a varied university degree. You will learn about computer technology – programming, usage, data communications, computer networks and the Internet. You will gain excellent insight into computer systems used in industry and public administration.
As a software engineer you will be employable in the IT industry using advanced IT systems. Here are some examples of areas of work:
Working on software development and IT project management in, for example, IT companies, telecommunications and Internet service providers, construction companies, banks, insurance companies and public administration. This is the basis for a broad range of communication and transactions in the public and private sectors, as well as the individual private sphere.
Professional administrative use of IT for project management, as well as management and administration systems. This is a precondition for well-functioning industry, business and society.
Efficient use of IT for data collection and processing in research or consultative engineering, for example, in the fields of sustainable energy production and energy efficiency.
IT in climate studies and forecasts, seismic studies related to oil prospecting, health research, and many other fields.
Software engineering offers access to a range of employment opportunities and, as an international degree, it also serves as a foundation for further studies virtually anywhere in the world.
An upper secondary diploma with B-level or A-level Mathematics with a minimum average of 6 on the Marking Scale of 00 to 13 is required. This corresponds to 4 on B level or at least 02 on the Marking Scale of -3 to 12
The average is calculated based on both exam results and annual marks for oral and written performance.
The faculty may decide to apply equivalent criteria based on case-by-case assessments.
