In autumn 2015 the Department of History and Social Sciences at the University of the Faroe Islands is launching a full-time master-learning degree programme in history, politics and administration, as well as social analysis and planning. The Department is looking to take in up to 30 students on the programme starting in mid August 2015.
We will be training historians and social scientists using a model developed at the Department of History and Social Sciences termed master-learning.
The purpose of the master-learning programme is to enable students to acquire competences in a chosen subject area meeting high international standards, while ensuring that each student has the opportunity to develop their own individual subject profile. The programme focuses heavily on developing an independent approach to work and the capacity to acquire insight into complex issues, particularly through problem-based project work. Working on the basis of developing such characteristics is, we believe, very important for such a small labour market as the Faroese one.
By successfully completing the master-learning degree in social sciences or in history you will acquire:
Through the master-learning concept you will get a solid academic and profession-oriented degree grounded in knowledge and experience from both international settings and directly from Faroese society. You will obtain high-level qualifications preparing you for management and analysis in the public sector, the private sector and the non-profit sector as well.
Prospective applicants should note that it is likely that a significant portion of lectures and assignments will be in a language other than Faroese (i.e. other Nordic languages/English). Please also note that the second semester is intended as a stay at a higher education institution abroad. Finally, this degree programme will require participants to be present for more activities than most university programmes.
The application deadline is July 1, 2016. Applicants will receive a reply by e-mail by July 20, 2016.
The application form and guidance are available in Faroese here.
Applications can be submitted via e-mail to: lestur@setur.fo. More detailed information is available on the application form.
