Diploma course in Faroese

Purpose and contents

The purpose of the course is helping participants to develop their ability to use the Faroese language as an instrument in a rich, varied and appropriate manner, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of the Faroese language and using it at work, in every day life and in higher education. 

The course emphasises broad and in-depth insight into Faroese grammar. Learning is supported through exercises related to the topics covered. Participants receive guidance on how to fully harness dictionaries and they will also practice their use of language and spelling by writing essays and taking dictation. A selection of Faroese texts will be read, analysed and interpreted. 

Location and time

The total duration of the course is 72 hours and classes usually take place at the University of the Faroe Islands, Department of Faroese Language and Literature, V. U. Hammershaimbsgøta 16, 100 Tórshavn. 

Attendance

Course attendance is not compulsory, however, participants are kindly requested to notify the University Administration or lecturer, by e-mail or other means, if they cannot attend a session or intend to leave the course. 

Examination

The examination covers different areas and types of exercises: essay writing, spelling and grammar. The examination is not mandatory.
